ABOUT THE JOB:

GOAT USA is looking for an exceptional Fabric, Trim, & Color Specialist who will be responsible for overseeing the development, sourcing, testing, color approval, and production readiness of all fabrics, trims, and colors across our product assortment. This position is based in Plainview, NY and works closely with Design, Technical Design, Production, and external vendor partners.

The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of textile and trim development, color management, fabric performance testing, and material sourcing within the apparel industry. The ideal candidate will also be proactive in managing critical material programs, resolving quality concerns, maintaining vendor relationships, and ensuring all fabrics, trims, and colors meet GOAT USA’s standards.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

Fabric, Trim, & Color Specialist

Job Purpose

The Fabric, Trim, & Color Specialist is responsible for overseeing the end-to-end fabric and trim lifecycle, from initial sourcing and development through testing, color approval, and production readiness. It ensures all fabrics and trim meet quality and performance standards while supporting seasonal design initiatives, maintaining critical material programs, and driving timely execution across calendars. The position partners closely with mills, vendors, and cross-functional teams to resolve issues, manage submissions, and deliver consistent, high-quality materials aligned with GOAT USA objectives.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Initiate new fabric/ trim sourcing requests for seasonal mill week presentation to design.
  • Manage all fabric/ trim performance pre-testing and bulk testing, ensuring quality standards are met.
  • Communicate and send all details for packaging to vendors for development.
  • Partner with mills, factories, and third-party labs to review all fabric/ trim performance test reports and present CAP for any failures.
  • Oversea color submissions (lab dips, wash shade lots, fabric strike offs, handlooms, knit downs, & bulk fabric submits + shade bands) ensuring clear comments are provided for corrections where applicable.
  • Manage all comments to vendors electronically (SharePoint or PLM).
  • Track all submissions against the calendar to ensure timely submissions.
  • Create and maintain the GOAT USA fabric library.
  • Initiate core fabric/seasonal fabric/trim renewals for color and testing.
  • Manage GOAT USA greige commitments.
  • Manage GOAT USA seasonal SSY prepositions.
  • Analyze quality issues and product return data to identify trends and inform internal teams.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Design, Technical, and Production teams to ensure timelines and standards are met.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners.
  • Partner with Assistant Design to review all graphic strike offs for color accuracy.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field.
  • PLM experience is preferred.
  • 5 years of experience in retail apparel with a focus on fabric & color.
  • Expertise in differentiating the color spectrum (Color Test Score no lower than 8 and annual color test renewal required).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong communication, leadership and team management skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English
  • Full-Time, exempt.
  • Normal working hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday; must be flexible to work evenings and occasional weekends.
